Ipswich North State School is a small school steeped in history. In 2007 we
celebrated our 140th Anniversary. Presently we have 190 students enrolled.
Our school is situated in the West Moreton shire. We are located in Ipswich
on the corner of Downs and Fitzgibbon Streets. Our school provides co-educational
education from Prep to Year Seven. Inclusivity is a high priority at Ipswich
North State School. Our special education unit works in a way that enhances
opportunities for our students to integrate into mainstream classrooms. Our
school design is comprised of three pods-junior (prep to three), intermediate
(years four and five) and senior (years six and seven). Students within the
pods have educational needs addressed at instructional level which means that
both remediation and extension requirements are addressed within classroom
programs.
Ours is a welcoming and caring school with a strong emphasis on community involvement. Our Parent Liaison officer works with families to form strong home-school links. Many parents take advantage of this service when they are uncertain or need more information on a particular subject. We offer regular information sessions for parents to familiarise them with our distinctive approach to curriculum. A weekly newsletter keeps families abreast of all the happenings within the school and biennial parent teacher meetings and student reports give ample opportunity for insight into student progress. We employ the services of a Chaplain to further enhance the emotional stability of our student and create links between the school and home.
Our school personnel are committed to a process of School-wide Positive Behaviour Support. The expectations for behaviour are clearly stated and consistently applied across all areas of the school community. We provide programs to support groups of students with common needs to assist them in socialisation, resilience and control. Individual support is provided to those students who require it, in consultation with parents and caregivers so as to enhance relationships between school and home.
Ipswich North is a wonderful school, with a positive, supportive attitude and
enthusiastic community.
